These types of projects involve the rollout of monitoring systems (RTUs) that collect information from site equipment and environmental sensors within those sites. These sites are linked together to form a network of monitoring systems. Various Transmission mediums are used to link these sites on the network (microwave, optical fibre and data radio). Ultimately the RTUs measure signal levels, controls equipment, acquires signal statuses and concentrates this information to be sent to a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system that is located at a Technical Command Centre (TCC)/National Operating Centre (NOC).
